Herman Moreno
ID Studio mourns the loss of our close friend and Board member, Herman Moreno. Herman was part of the founding of ID Studio, President of the Board for several years and continued to serve as Vice-President. He contributed in many ways -- as playwright, educator, aesthete, scientist, collaborator; in him, as his friends have testified, intelligence, nobility, wisdom, solidarity, art, literature, madness, fraternity and many more things that did and will make him an exceptional being were combined.
Herman completed his medical studies and began research in neurology in Colombia, focusing on Alzheimers and other degenerative diseases of the brain, and became an Associate Professor of Neurology at SUNY Downstate as well as the right hand and successor of Rodolfo Llinas, who was Professor of Neuroscience and Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Physiology & Neuroscience at the NYU School of Medicine—with the result that two of the most distinguished neurologists here were born in Colombia. Herman was not only a scientist but also a humanist, and a book of his essays, together with the play Cirineo, which ID Studio has filmed and will continue to present, will be published by CUNY Press this fall.

We honor the memory of theater master, Santiago Garcia, founder of Teatro La Candelaria and an important influence on our artistic director, Germán Jaramillo, and our company. Above, materials from a production of Guadalupe Años Sin Cuenta, an emblematic piece of modern Colombian theater by Teatro de la Candelaria which we co-presented in 2004 at Teatro Natives in Queens.
